I dug it, f'reals.

It's nice to see Jamie talking with Iason instead of whining, and Iason considering Jamie's wants as an individual person. I like how they worked together on this.

“I suppose,” I said. “I’m not thrilled about the idea of being a non-person in elven eyes.”

“You make too much of it,” Iason said. “It’s barely a step down from a non-elf.”

He may be a jerk, but he doesn't pull punches.

Yes, that exchange got one of those half-laugh, half-wince reactions from me... Elves in the MUverse really don't have much respect for any other species, it seems.

Not a typo, but...

I noticed it's still a "sneak preview" in the Twitterbox thingy, where you usually announce once a story's been posted...

typo

"I thought you would appreciate it more, had it proved possible to convince him other merits,"

I think there's an "of" missing there.

Re: typo

all the way to the wide exit, efore I spoke.

'Nuff said.

At least Iason is trying, though it could be argued that he has always been "trying", just in a different sense. Still, his willingness to bend is commendable in a race which seems to be the epitome of arrogance.

It looks like the elfen concept of "impartial" is more like "self-interested" which, from what we've heard, describes all of them.

Cunning Linguistics:
The name Philomenes is
Greek for "Love of strength"

"Impartial" Elves may
Be inclined toward seeing
Things as black or white

A Fun Fact: humans

Five centuries ago

Philomenes

Now we get a glimpse of Philomenes before he arbitrates Mackenzie's dispute with MU. I need someone to draw me a picture because I envision him in some very tacky 70's black and white clothing. For examples see the "PoP! Goes My Heart" video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0A7dtdc-nU) at the beginning of the film "Music and Lyrics." Also, I think of him striding off in a self-assured confident way singing the Elvish version of "I Am the Very Model of a Modern Major General."

In some chapter in the near future, we will get to see Marlot's reaction to Jamie as a stag.

Re: Philomenes

That will have to be in an Other Tale, since Jamie won 't be able to describe it for us.

Re: Philomenes

Well, we could have Jamie observing her reaction as a stag, and as he comes out of being a stag.

Re: Philomenes

I'm almost certain that the next time Jamie and Marlot get together (after the match), the subject might be something that Marlot wants to share her opinions about. Of course I have been wrong many times before in my predictions.

Re: Philomenes

I have a good, non-tacky idea of what I think he looks like in my head. Unfortunately, all my artistic skill is found in words and photoshop, and it's pretty minimal even then.

Re: Philomenes

I read that as "Elvis version", which led to... interesting... images.

Toxotes?

Ok, so, i don't know if there was already a discussion on last names, particularly Jamie's, but uh, any idea what the root of Toxotes is? I'm curious because of the whole "Blaise/Mason" Elemental thing in the Other MU.

Re: Toxotes?

I usually leave it up for readers to uncover those little easter eggs, but this one was translated on the old comment board: it's his last name approximated in Greek (literally "archer" or "bowman").
