Typo

AE, I think you're missing a quotation mark on ythe paragraph that starts here:

Those… men… who were bothering you.

heading from * end of the hallway to the other.

Missing a "one" in front of "end".

This does answer a number of questions. We now know what Two's master did and that he didn't use her for sex. He may still be a little creepy for creating Two the way he did and keeping her locked up in his basement all the time but he doesn't sound like such a bad sort overall. In some ways I think she was actually better off with her master than she was when she lived at Hearts of Clay. Does anyone remember though why Two wound up going to MU?

So I might be barking up the wrong tree, here, but I inferred from this chapter that Two's runes actually specifically stand for different types of enchantment. The W is Will, the O is Orders, what's the T for?

"T" is probably the "Tree of Life"; but I read "O" as the "Circle of Will", leaving "W" unexplained.

W is I believe a trident thingy that gives the ability to do magic? Mackenzie's research on golems in the library covered this forever ago.

Interesting. You could probably manage some decent pontification about morality and ethics, just by noting how the subterranean elves and humans view creation of life and comparing that to the relative availability of food.

Two's Runes

you can find a description of twos runs in chapter 68
they are:
Tree of Life (grants life)
Wizard mark/forked staff (Grants ability to use magic)
Circle of Will Subjugated (grants intelegence and binds will to the master)

Not to state the obvious, but...

Two insists very readily that she would not mind having sex with her maker. In her dreams, we've seen her wish he would acknowledge her even by saying hello in the morning.

In short, I think Two has daddy issues.

We'll have to see if she can work through them and develop romantic feelings for other people.

Re: Not to state the obvious, but...

I think it's best to avoid confusing her maker with her father. There's such a huge realm of difference between the two.

Re: Not to state the obvious, but...

Yeah, I agree. If she had real Oedipal issues it would be gross and wrong, to borrow a phrase from Sooni. :)

So you're right, it's better to say she has some kind of "maker issues." I'm fascinated to see how they play out... as she learns to be more of a critical thinker, will she learn to question the authority that made her? How will she reconcile herself to that authority? In that sense, her struggle is like Amaranth's with Mother Khaele.

Plus, will she, you know, get to start dating people? Enquiring minds want to know. ^_^

Re: Not to state the obvious, but...

I think half the cast of this story have daddy issues of one kind or another.

Dick and Rod both know
The Rules—and also know how
To get around them

Hearts of Clay isn't
The problem so much as all
Those with feet of clay

ŦΨØ and Dee seem to
Have come to a literal
Meeting of the minds

So it's pretty-much official, Two is fundamentally asexual.

Amaranth will not be pleased.

Do we care about Amaranth's pleasure?

No, but we should care about the inevitable grand mal clusterfuck that'll result from Two's asexuality coming up against Amaranth's 'sex solves everything' philosophy full-stop.

Already was a near-miss with the 'personal massager'.

I think it'll come out OK for Two and Amy. Amy will get chewed the frack out, and Two will probly express her anger/unhappiness/dissatisfaction without being a brat. It's everyone else that this will be bad for. You know, the people that tend to run around like headless chickens for the smallest things and have no clue how to begin to deal with the larger.

do not would like

I was both proud of Two, and selfishly disappointed, to see her say "I would not like to talk about him." I hope she hasn't entirely lost the circumlocution Mack inflicted on her way back at the start. Maybe it's just that psionic communication doesn't actually use words?
