Note: It's readable now. This one has me boggled. All the settings were normal. Unpublishing the story and republishing it seems to have worked, though. Let me know if it's still gone for anybody.
Not exactly a typo, but it the near repetition here (of something from the last chapter) intentional?
"Excellent," Caron said. "Let's get you decked out... and I'm willing to be flexible, if only because I think those tits need ornamenting. If you want a set of nipple piercings, we'll call that one piece and one spell."
(Previous chapter said: "I'll be flexible, if only because I think those tits need ornamenting," she said, and she took the paper from me and amended it to read "or 1 set nipple piercings" and "or 1 mass binding spell", then handed it back.)
Tomorrow's Wednesday... Other Tales day. If there's a character you feel's been neglected or someone or something you'd like to read more about, feel free to throw a shout out up here.
I know you've been putting her in quite a bit recently, but I'd like more of a look at Pala and her family life sometime, as the comments she's made about it are... curious.
Also the mock dragons/dragon handlers. Or someone in the administration of MU who has to deal with problems students create. Or MU administration in general.
"'Baby, that’s one reason why we should have talked about it,' Amaranth said. 'Don’t think I don’t appreciate what you did, but don’t think you’re going to get off easily for that stunt.'" This pissed me off so frakking much. Command her, you stupid nymph! Run roughshod over her now! Don't do it only when it's convenient for you, do it when it's actually good for Mack.
So does anyone think she's going to remember about that staff before she gets out to the field tomorrow? (Tomorrow in the story, whenever that turns out to be.)
I was REALLY glad Caron's girlfriend intervened when she did. It was creepy enough already.
And yeah, Amaranth is even more hypocritical than usual here.
Oddly enough, the question I am most looking forward to hopefully being answered is whether the binding spell makes her piercings magical with regards to her invulnerability.
It seems to me that they are more "under an enchantment" than "enchanted". They are affected by a spell that is cast around them, with them as the focus, but the magic is not imbued into the piercings themselves. Of course, the nature of the enchantment could make it difficult to discern whether any resistance to forceful removal is due to her invulnerability or the enchantment itself. So really, I don't know.
The only other real reference points are Jamie's top-of-the-line piercings which are crammed full of protective and security features. Which I don't find particularly useful because they are quite a bit more sophisticated and designed with the possibility of theft expressly in mind. As well as the ramifications of possible different results of different approaches to the ways that the spells could work.
The one here is just a binding spell. A relatively weak binding spell, like Mackenzie said, but it is still magic. The assumption I am going to go with is that mundane force can not separate her from the piercings, or rather, them from her. Hopefully the situation does not come up that my theory is tested. Though, the next time Mackenzie "plays" with one of the mermaids will probably serve.
Caron mentioned infection. I don't recall if the word has been used before in a non-Scientific context. Is this one of those "Dwarves know a little Science" things or is the term just used more generally for infectious humors or ethers or whatever?
Given that there's also 'cure disease' and the possibility of picking up diseases from sex, I think that an infection is much the same thing. Only it isn't quite the same to the degree of bacteria and virii and so forth. Instead it's disease as you see it in fantasy roleplaying games: they're akin to curses or negative enchantments that can spontaneously show up in a given situation.
I'm afraid not. I wouldn't be terribly surprised if somebody has used a small padlock as a nipple piercing before, but I don't know of any designed as such.
Oooooh, sorry, I thought I blogged about that yesterday but I guess I only planned on it. I'm still trying to fix the "It's posted!"/"No it's not!" thing that you may have noticed on the last two updates... both times that happened, it almost ground my server to a halt with people refreshing.

I shall balance that with saying that I forgot to mention in the comments on last chapter how very much I loved this particular exchange:Truer words were never spoken. Well, except perhaps occasionally by Dee and/or Two...

“Is there anything else you need while we’re here?”
“I can’t think of a thing,” I said, and we headed back for the coaches.
No, completely forgotten it. Not even "yes, a staff, but I'm not wasting money on one".
