Aren't someone's hands supposed to move on a staff, rather than stay in the middle? (puzzled)

There's lots and lots of different staff techniques... both hands near the middle was one used by the Victorians, and while usually I'd laugh at it, when you're cramped for space it's actually quite a good idea. The disadvantage is that it doesn't let you put much force into each blow, but then Mack hardly needs to worry about that.
